Viewing Large
Reports with Adobe Acrobat Reader®
We frequently
get e-mails from visitors to our web page who are having difficulty viewing
our reports. There are several potential causes of these problems and
this page will attempt to help you resolve these issues. A frequent complaint
is that the user just gets a blank window when a report is opened. Please
be aware that many of the District's reports contain a large number of
maps and/or graphics that will take quite some time (as much as 30 minutes
to an hour) to download on a dial-up connection. If you are encountering
this problem, you may want to check the icon in the upper-righthand corner
of your screen. This icon is animated when the download is in progress.
If you have a blank screen and this icon is spinning or otherwise moving,
then you should continue to wait.
For these large
files, you may find it preferable to right-click on the document and save
it your your hard drive. Once it is on your hard drive, you can open it
with your Adobe Acrobat Reader and it should display much quicker. This
method also gives you better feedback as to the progress of the download,
so that you can gauge how long the download will take.
There are a few
other known issues with older versions of Internet Explorer and Acrobat Reader. You might want to consider updating your
software if the version you are using is fairly old.
